My Goal
As a professional school counselor, my goal is to help students succeed personally, socially, and academically, so they can do their best in school and have a good school experience. I work to achieve this goal in a variety of ways outlined below.
Program Components
Individual Counseling- I see students for short term individual counseling as needed. Students may ask to come see me or they may be referred by parents, teachers, or administrators. Individual counseling is not meant to serve as long term therapy and if I believe that a students needs more intensive long term counseling, I will work with the parent to find an appropriate referral. As a licensed school counselor and nationally certified counselor, I am bound by law and ethical code to maintain confidentiality. The reasons I may break confidentiality are if a student tells me they are being harmed, they are harming themselves or they want to harm someone else. If something arises during a session that I believe needs to be shared with a parent or guardian, I will work with the student to come to a solution for how to provide that information.
Small Group Counseling-My small groups vary depending on the needs of the school year. I work with teachers and parents to identify students for appropriate small groups. My small groups run for different lengths of time but usually last for about 6 sessions. We address topics such as bullying, healthy social behaviors, wellness, time management, study skills, family changes, and more.
Classroom Guidance- This year I will be seeing each class once a week for approximately 40 minutes. I will be incorporating the NC Guidance Essential Standards into my lessons that address academic, career and personal/social development. The content changes with each grade level but each student will experience lessons in these categories. I will be including information about my classroom lessons on the separate classroom guidance lesson page.
Consultation- I am available to consult with parents and staff regarding social-emotional development, and career and academic development. I am happy to find helpful resources and referrals for families. You can reach me by phone, email, or filling out the contact form on my home page.
Committees and Teams- I am the the chair of the Student Support Team and 504 Team, and I serve on the AIG committee. I also assist our school test coordinator.
